Young Wallander season 1, a prequel to the Wallander franchise is a blend of genres like drama, crime, and mystery. Created by Ben Harris and directed by Ole Endresen and Jens Jonsson. The show follows a recently graduated police officer Kurt Wallander (Adam Pålsson) and his encounters with a crime in modern-day Sweden.
The show is set in the troubled town of Ystad. Wallander witnesses a hate-crime in his own estate, compelling him to step up to his police duties. However, there is a twist! The series is accommodated to today’s Sweden rather than jumping back on the timeline. It focuses on depicting the youth of Wallander in today’s world filled with technology and vast resources.
Instead of showcasing a detective in the olden times, it dwells into a “modern reimagination of the legendary detective, Kurt Wallander, who must navigate the increasingly violent environment of his country constructed on formative experiences,” according to the show’s synopsis. He lives in an area where the people are hostile towards the police and indulges in all sorts of petty crimes that later in the story build-up to a major murder-crime mystery, setting the path for Kurt Wallander as the renowned detective that we know of.
