Today we’ll look into why KUWTK is so addictive for a huge number of reality show lovers. Keeping up with the Kardashians (KUWTK) first premiered on 14th of October, 2007 on E! Cable and is still thriving with the 18th season in making.
The series focuses on Kim Kardashian and her equally entertaining sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian along with their half-sisters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. The captain of the crew appears to be Kris Jenner, their mother, who is now known as the “Momager” as she managed to market her five daughters into billionaires.
The show also features brother Rob Kardashian, Kourtney’s former boyfriend Scott Disick, Caitlyn Jenner (previously known as Bruce Jenner). There are many other famous guest appearances like Kim’s current husband Kanye West, Khloe’s ex-husband Lamar Odom, Blac Chyna, French Montana, and the list goes on.
Now the question arises, why is KUWTK so addictive?
The answer is simple yet extremely complicated. When KUWTK first aired, reality tv was already a very popular concept. The sisters strategically utilized the fame of the concept adding extra flair, drama, and spice.
The most prominent factor of KUWTK is that it doesn’t focus on only one sister but each individual has a storyline very much like real life. For instance, Kourtney and Scott Disick’s roller coaster of a relationship. The world has seen their ups and downs including the birth of their three children and numerous cheating scandals. Kimberly’s life has been no less than a movie. From being Paris Hilton’s personal assistant to becoming a household name, viewers have witnessed it all.
The KUWTK clan is all over the media due to its long record of controversies. On many occasions, Khloe Kardashian has been accused of cultural appropriation with the way she styles herself. Rob Kardashian and his ex Blac Chyna were briefly on the show. Their relationship ended horribly after Rob allegedly released Blac’s nudes without her consent in response to her cheating on him. Kendall Jenner faced extreme backlash on her Pepsi ad for “mocking” the black lives matter movement. In general, the sisters have faced major criticism for setting astronomically high body standards with the use of plastic surgery, fillers, and extreme photoshop. Well, their anthem is certainly “there is no such thing as bad publicity”.
There is no denying that these controversies work in their favor as most of them have their own million-dollar companies like Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner, KKW Beauty by Kim, Khloé has her Good American apparel company and Kourtney owns Poosh, a lifestyle site. Not to forget, Kendall Jenner is now one of the top models in the world, walking for esteemed brands like Victoria’s Secret, Chanel, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Versace, Balmain, Dior. By the way, guess who is their manager? it is the one and only, our matriarch, Kris Jenner (wink, wink!)
With so much happening, all the drama that we constantly want to keep a tab on, KUWTK is addictive for most of us!
End of the day, we all want to keep up with the Kardashians…
The family has completely flipped the entertainment news industry to their favor. There isn’t a day when one of the Kardashian-Jenner isn’t on the news. On a lighter note, they do tend to leave their mark on the audience with their undying loyalty towards each other and the level of comfort they share with each other. This has resulted in many entertaining and iconic moments that will go down history. Everyone remembers Kimberly’s legendary selfie sesh while accompanying Khloe to jail on a charge of violating probation!
