The world-famous and sprinter Usain Bolt recently revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 just after he celebrated his 34th birthday in Jamaica.
Turns out that Bolt wasn’t fast enough to outrun the virus sadly.
The world’s fastest man
Usain St Leo Bolt, a Jamaican sprinter who holds the world record in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4×100 metres relay race. He is also an eight-time Olympic gold medallist and the only sprinter to have won the Olympic 100 metres and 200 metres titles at three consecutive Olympic games in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Thus he is as the fastest man alive till date.
Fans of the olympic medallist showed concern after he posted on social media this monday about testing Covid positive and being in quarantine at present.
Bolt took the COVID test on Saturday following his surprise birthday bash on Friday in Jamaica. He subsequently posted a video on Instagram and twitter addressing his followers about the same. He said, “I did a test on Saturday to leave because I work. I am trying to be responsible so I am going to stay in and stay here for my friends.”
The Olympic medallist was in self-isolation at the time until the results came out to be positive a while later.
He claims that he doesn’t have any symptoms as of yet and is awaiting further instructions on the quarantine and the protocols that he needs to follow in his current state.
He also added, “I am saying anyone who has had contact with me should quarantine by themselves just to be safe, and just to take it easy.”
The Birthday bash which could’ve caused Usain Bolt to test positive for COVID-19
The surprise birthday party was arranged by Bolt’s girlfriend Kasi Bennett. It was a big gathering with a lot of people there. However, no one followed any social distancing measures nor were they wearing masks. This came as a surprise and shock to most people considering how critical the situation is all around the world because of the pandemic. Even Bolt himself was witnessed disregarding safe distancing guidelines as he danced amidst the crowd without a mask on.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness gave a public address to the citizens earlier on Friday. He emphasized the importance of wearing masks in public and urged everyone to follow social distancing. He also added that any gathering with more than 20 people should be avoided.
However, it seems that the folks at the party took the message lightly which led to widespread criticism from netizens.
The party was attended by many local and international celebrity figures including several famous athletes. Some of them were Manchester City star and England national team football player- Raheem Sterling, Bayer Leverkusen winger- Leon Bailey, and cricketer Chris Gayle from Kings XI Punjab.
Chris Gayle tested negative twice as per the recent tests he took after attending the party. He is thus safe to travel to the UAE to play for Kings XI Punjab in the upcoming IPL 2020 match series.
Raheem too tested negative after taking the COVID test post the party celebrations. This means that he too is eligible to play in the upcoming matches for the next football season.
