The Umbrella Academy is a show about 7 children (main characters) with unbelievable superpowers. A fantastic and brilliantly conceived look into a highly dysfunctional and wonderfully funny family of superhuman children who have now grown up, whose lives have all changed for the worse.
The Umbrella Academy has a cast which brings each and every one of these characters to life with not only their superpowers but also with ease and sophisticated realism – whether it’s Ellen Page’s troubles outcast Vanya Hargreeves, the wild card who abandoned the family and wrote a tell-all autobiography that wrecked the Academy; or the team’s pansexual, drug-addicted, stylishly unkempt mascot Klaus Hargreeves, memorably portrayed by Robert Sheehan.
The plot is rich with suspense, drama, action, sci-fi and even a good dash of horror, and no element feels half-baked: fast-paced and exhilarating, the Umbrella Academy will have you binge-watching without stop until you reach the climactic finale.
1. Luther Hargreeves
Luther was a rather diligent son compared to the other siblings. He held his father in strong regard until the end of season one. He had superhuman strength and was always the leader of the group. In a tragic event, he severely got injured. To save him, his adoptive father, Reginald Hargreeves injected a serum into him that transformed his upper body into that of an ape’s. This explains his abnormally large and hairy upper body.
Luther actually gave the viewers an insight into the psychological trauma a person with the “Hero Syndrome” goes through upon failure. The “Hero Syndrome” is a phenomenon affecting people who seek heroism or recognition, usually by creating a situation that they can resolve. Even though Reginald Hargreeves sent him to the Moon for no apparent reason, Luther tried to make a mission out of that as well. This usually caused rifts between him and his other siblings. 2. Diego Hargreeves
Diego is a character that is fixated on becoming Number 1. This usually created tension between Luther and him. His powers included shifting the path of a metal object in his favor. He usually uses knives to his advantage during fights. In the finale of season 2, he is seen controlling a shower of bullets with his bare hands and changing their direction.
3. Allison Hargreeves
Allison had the ability to control anybody by saying the phrase, “I heard a rumor…..” after which she commands whatever she wishes them to do. This power can only be beneficial if used in moderation. Allison went through a rough marriage. She had used her powers to become a successful actress, receive projects she wished to work on, and to attain whatever she wished to. In season 2, she tries her best to abstain from using the power and build her relationships on pure emotions and genuineness.

4. Klaus Hargreeves
Klaus was one of the most original characters in the series. He has the ability to talk to the dead. Klaus had a very strained relationship with his father mainly because of the fact that his father believed that he never utilized his power to the maximum. In fact, Klaus spent his childhood in dingy graveyards and mausoleums. Over the years, he began to loathe his powers and found shelter in drugs and alcohol in order to weaken them.
Known as Five, the boy possessed the ability to teleport through time and space. He could very easily teleport from one room to another or perhaps jump from one day to the next. One must note that his powers were extremely unreliable which caused him to get trapped in the post-apocalyptic world for nearly 50 years. He also worked for an organization called Temps Commission which controlled the happenings of the world and made sure there were no discrepancies in the time flow of major events in history. We must say, all the characters from The Umbrella Academy have intriguing superpowers.
6. Ben Hargreeves
One of The Umbrella Academy’s creepiest members, Ben has the power to summon horrifying tentacled monsters from his body, disposing of the team’s foes in brutal fashion. He died under mysterious circumstances, meaning his only way to communicate with the team now is through Klaus.
7. Vanya Hargreeves
Vanya was the forgotten child of the family. She lived her whole life under the impression that she was the only sibling who didn’t have any powers. However, it turned out that she was the most powerful amongst them and their father was afraid of her powers. Hence, he kept her powers dormant with the use of pills and medicines. Vanya has the powers of telekinesis and sound projection. She could control sound waves and send powerful blasts of energy when required.
