Attention! Attention! We have some big news for you, Crown Fam! Netflix’s The Crown has found its Princess Diana and is now going to release soon. Elizabeth Debicki will be playing Princess Diana in Season 5 and 6 of the royal drama.
Furthermore, the drama will have more seasons too, it’s officially confirmed, despite previous reports of Season 5 being the last. Peter Morgan, creator, and showrunner of the Netflix drama confirmed this in January.
“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Debicki said in a quote tweeted alongside the announcement. You might recognize the actor from her roles in The Great Gatsby, The Night Manager, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which she played the golden-skinned Sovereign high priestess, Ayesha.
According to the publication, the break was always part of The Crown‘s plan going forward and has nothing to do with the coronavirus putting production on hold. And it’s not a new surprise. Firstly, season 1 was released in 2016, in November, following which came season 2 in December 2017. The Crown season 3 then came in November 2019. According to the pattern, season 4 should come around December 2020, but as of now, no such news about the cast or the release date has been provided.

The cast further includes Game of Thrones star Jonathan Pryce. He was revealed to play Prince Philip in the final two seasons. Pryce was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his work as Pope Francis in The Two Popes.
On January 31st, 2020, Netflix confirmed Imelda Staunton. You might recognize her from Nanny McPhee. While she also played Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and would be taking over from Olivia Colman as the Queen. “I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”, she exclaimed.
About The Series
Given the proposed timeline, seasons 5 and 6 of The Crown will follow Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ divorce and likely will depict her tragic death in the year 1997. At 6’3,” Debicki is considerably taller than Diana, who stood at 5’10.” Actually, she is the same height as Prince William. And there is definitely a lot more to come!
Season five will look at the lives and loves of the Royal Family in the 90s and into the 00s. The Queen’s speech given on the 40th anniversary of her succession will no doubt be a key feature in the upcoming series.
According to Backstage, production for the fourth season of The Crown began in August 2019 and ended in February 2020. Thus, taking in consideration, there was almost a two year-long gap between seasons two and three. Thus, production for season five will begin, most probably in 2021.
The fourth installment is being expected in 2020, so the fifth season will most likely arrive in 2022.
