MTV VMAs winners for 2020 have been announced! MTV’s Video Media Awards have been with us since 1984 and not even a pandemic could stop it from honoring the best in the music video medium! The 2020 MTV VMAs aired on Sunday night amid the ever-growing Coronavirus pandemic as glamourous as ever. The spotlight shone on Lady Gaga as she bagged the Moon Person (earlier known as the “Moonman”, however in 2017 Chris McCarthy, the president of MTV, announced the change in the name of the award) along with Kpop sensation BTS and The Weekend.
The MTV VMAs 2020 was majorly a virtual event barring a few performances which were performed in front of a limited audience, keeping social distancing norms in mind. The event kickstarted with a performance by The Weekend who sang “Blinding Lights” for which he won the “Video of the year” award beating Billie Eilish, Eminem, and other nominees. The star of the evening was definitely Lady Gaga who stunned her audience with 9 different outfits focusing on a futuristic theme and featured eccentric face masks encouraging to practice safety at all times (even during her three-song performance!). she won artist of the year, song of the year, best cinematography and best collaboration. She was also honored with the inaugural Tricon Award for being a three-way icon in music, acting, fashion and activism.
