The American TV series Lucifer first premiered, years back in January 2016. It takes origins from the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg taken from the comic book series The Sandman. The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. Since its release, the show has been quite popular among the audience. It was first telecasted on Fox for the first two seasons, but in May 2018 they cancelled the show after the third season. A month after Fox’s cancellation Netflix announced that they will be picking the show for its fourth season with 10 episodes which were released on May 8, 2019, and its earlier season were made available on Netflix.
Last year Netflix renewed the series for its fifth and final season which will be having 16 episodes. The fans are quite excited for the new season as well as sad since it will be the last of Lucifer. However, it was reported that the cast of the show has been signed for another season, but there is no confirmation yet. So here’s what we have about the latest season so far:
The cast of the series started filming the latest season of the series last year in September. Earlier this year in February the writers of the show revealed that they are finished with writing the show. But due to the current circumstances of COVID-19 virus, the production of the show is now on halt. So there is a slight possibility that the new season will be out in July 2020, but by looking at the current scenarios there may be a chance that the new season will not be available till 2021. Tom Ellis quoted on The Kelly Clarkson Show last year: “Season five… is going to be split into two halves. Netflix is going to drop eight episodes, then there’s going to be a little break, then another eight episodes”. So this means a lot of filming is still left to be done and the Lucifans may have to wait for a little longer than expected.
Tom Ellis and Lauren German will be reprising their roles as Lucifer Morningstar and Detective Chloe Decker. Joining them will be the regular star cast of the show which means Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, Kevin Alejandro, and Aimee Garcia. Dennis Haysbert will also be joining the show as he will be playing the great Almighty and Lucifer’s previous boss, who was voiced by author Neil Gaiman in season 3. Inbar Lavi could also be returning as Eve. A lot of new characters will be seen in this season as the new cast was introduced to the fans after a series of tweets. The new cast includes Erin Cummings Matthew Bohrer, Brianne Davis, Catherine Dent, and Chaley Rose.
At the end of season four, Lucifer returned to hell to resume his duties as king because he understood that the demons would be eventually returning. But resuming his old post didn’t mean that Lucifer has turned his back on all of the good qualities he picked up on Earth, hence the devil face and angel wings.
Henderson, one of the showrunners of the show said, “We have a lot of exciting ways, and one way, in particular, to do it that launches an awesome, awesome season five. We did spend some time digging into what we think can be season five. We even have the first scene [of season five], which is one of my favourite things we’ve ever come up with.”So this going to be one heck of a ride for Lucifer to manage his responsibilities as the boss of Hell. Along with all the drama, fights and romance (Lucifer and Chloe), there is going to be an alternate reality episode set in the 1940s. It’s been reported that ’80s pop star Debbie Gibson will pop up in that episode as Shelly Bitner. So, there is a lot to look forward to in the new season for Lucifans.
