Legendary news broadcaster, Larry King, opened up about losing, Son, and daughter in a span of less than a month. This is probably, every parent’s worst nightmare. And Larry has gone through this twice, which is heart-shattering.
His son Andy, passed away on 28th July, at the age of 65. He passed away from a heart attack. While his daughter passed away on 20th August, at the age of 51. She was diagnosed with lung cancer, shortly after which, she died.
King talks about his enormous loss, in a Facebook post
He poured his heart out on a Facebook post on Saturday. He wrote the following: “It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King. Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.”
Larry King further reflected the grief of parents saying: “Losing them feels so out of order,” said King. “No parent should have to bury a child.”. “My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes,” the 86-year-old continued. “In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.”, he said, thanking fans for showing their support during hard times.
About his progeny
The broadcaster is himself recovering from a stroke that he suffered in May 2019. It had left him in a coma for weeks, as well as a heart procedure. He divorced from Shawn in August 2019. King has other three children. They are Larry King Jr. with ex-wife Annette Kaye, while Cannon and Chance with ex-wife Shawn Southwick. Thus, Chaia was King’s only daughter. She was born to Larry and Alene Atkins. Andy was Alene’s son, from a previous relationship. Hence, shortly after their marriage in 1961, Larry adopted him. Atkins passed away in 2017.

Originally, Lawrence Harvey Zieger, an American television and radio host. His work has been recognized with awards including two Peabodys, an Emmy award, and 10 Cable ACE Awards. He gained prominence beginning in 1978 as host of The Larry King Show, an all-night nationwide call-in radio program heard on the Mutual Broadcasting System. Larry entered the industry, as a local journalist based in Florida. He worked as a radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s.
Larry King has been married eight times, to seven women. He married high-school sweetheart Freda Miller in 1952 at age 19. King was then married to Annette Kaye, briefly. He then married his third wife, Alene Akin twice. However, they got divorced later. Dove Books published a book written by King and Chaia, Daddy Day, Daughter Day. Aimed at young children, it tells each of their accounts of his divorce from Akins. His fifth wife was a mathematics teacher and production assistant Sharon Lepore.
Larry King then met businesswoman Julie Alexander in 1989 and proposed to her on the couple’s first date on August 1, 1989. His last marriage was with Shawn Southwick, and he ended his marriage last year in 2019.
King is religious and is a Jewish agnostic. He had five children from eight of his marriages. King resides in Beverly Hills, California.
