On Monday, that is July 6, 2020, Google made an announcement. It launched a free training program for the development and enhancement of small to medium-sized news publishers. This training program would first be available in Europe and then in the coming months spread out to other countries.
About the Program
In this Pandemic times, people prefer to keep them updated with the news around the world. Moreover, the economic crisis ongoing in the world has also subjected these news publishers to financial problems. To help them in these difficult times, google has taken the right initiative at the right time.
This program is called the digital growth program and it falls as part of the Google News Initiative(GNI). Above all, it is created for the welfare of the news publishers who have recently set foot into the digital world. Now the interested parties can establish and grow their online businesses with the help of Google.
Where is it first available?
As said, the Google News Initiative (GNI) Digital Growth Programme is first available in the Europen countries. The six countries which are to access and experience this program are Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, and France.
In a statement, Google said that it would be available in all the required local languages and that in upcoming months it would expand into several countries.
A statement released by Matt Brittin who is President of Google Europe, Middle East, and Africa on Google Blog, says that this endeavor of Google involves the interaction and feedback directly from the news publishers to make required improvements.
“We meet regularly with publishers of all sizes to hear how we can help them develop their products, expand their business, and improve their readers’ online experience. Based on feedback from these conversations, we’ve designed workshops that cover the fundamentals of digital business strategy, audience engagement, and revenue strategy.”
Speaking about the program and what it includes, he also said,
“In Europe, we have partnered with FT Strategies and Table Stakes Europe from WAN-IFRA to deliver in-depth labs, which include intensive training sessions and mentoring delivered over a number of weeks and months. As part of these labs, our partners will offer training from industry experts on a range of subjects, including change management, subscriptions, and audience growth. While the training is free, spaces are limited and available upon application. “
Google’s Support for News Publishers
As part of the Google News Initiative, Google has been supporting the news industry for over a long period. The tech giant recently funded 5,300 local news organizations and also five months of fee relief on Ad Manger for news publishers globally. With this program, they are keen to support every newcomer to establish their business as such improve and grow over time.
Moreover, they also committed their responsibility to lend a helping hand to the publishers in all possible ways. “Through these and other programs, products, and partnerships, we remain committed to supporting news publishers of all sizes around the world as they transition to a more digital world.”
