Dirt 5 (DiRT5) is an upcoming racing videogame. The game is developed and published by Codemasters. This game is the fourteenth installment in the series Colin McRae Rally and the eighth game with the title of Dirt.
Colin McRae Rally, the first game in the series was released in January 1998 in the United Kingdom and in September 1999 in the United States, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 was released in 2000, Colin McRae Rally 3 was released in 2002, Colin McRae Rally 4 was released in 2003, Colin McRae Rally 5 was released in 2004, Colin McRae: Dirt was released on 15 June 2007 in Europe and on 19 June 2007 in North America, Colin McRae: Dirt 2 was released in September 2009, Dirt 3 was released on 24 May 2011, Dirt: Showdown was released in May 2012. The 10th game in this series, Colin McRae Rally, released in 2013, shares the same title with the 1998 released game but the content and driving model of the game has been taken directly from Colin McRae Rally 2.0. After this, Dirt Rally, the next game in this series had its full release on 7 December 2015. Dirt 4 was released on 9 June 2017. Dirt Rally 2.0 was released on 26 February 2019.
In May 2020, Codemasters made the announcement of Dirt 5 which is scheduled to be launched in October 2020 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and with a Stadia version in 2021. Dirt 5 was announced during the 2020 Xbox Live presentation. The game not only looks incredible but also it will run buttery smooth with support of 120Hz and with an advantage of the console’s power to offer 4K 60FPS gameplay.
The developer, Codemasters also confirmed that it will support Smart Delivery, Microsoft’s way to ensure that whichever Xbox Console the player owns they will get the best version available which also means that if a player picks up the game on Xbox One then he will also get the Series X version. The developers also confirmed that the console’s Solid-State Drive (SSD) capabilities will ensure loading times are extremely less so the players can jump in much more quickly.
Dirt 5 will offer a career mode in which the players, to earn sponsors and contracts, take to the track. Nolan North will be voicing the player’s rival and Troy Baker will be in the game acting as the mentor of the player. The game is also known to be offering a wide variety of events and locations. Plenty of seasonal variation and that too with races in New York involving skidding across the frozen East River or buggies in China churning up in the sun are also expected. Nevertheless, there will be sprint cars, only capable of driving in an oval shape and offering the players a unique challenge. Lastly, Codemasters have also confirmed that Dirt 5 will can be enjoyed with 4 players split-screen racing.
