The concept of a Golden Buzzer was first introduced in season 9 of America’s Got Talent. Pressing it meant the direct acceptance of the participant in the next round not considering the vote of other judges. However, each judge had this undisputed vote of confidence only once in the entire season. The prime reason for this was to dissolve any ties between the judges.
The Golden Buzzer was upgraded in season 10 and its function changed. Now, whenever the Golden Buzzer is pressed, the audition goes straight to the live show.
